a Stirring

September 29, 2013 By Holly Smith Leave a Comment

Often the things I write in the margin are afterthoughts…or for emphasis–an aside, if you will.

When I go back to read through my notes, it is in the margin that I spend the most time.  “How did those words from my notes prompt these thoughts?” I would ask myself.  What did it mean?  And perhaps, just perhaps, the LORD pointed something out to me that He wanted me to remember.

So I wrote it down. I underlined.  I added a bit of myself to the living words spoken during that time–words spoken over me that began a change in me. I took time to write in the margin.  It is the place, where my life often finds breath and strength and source–renewal and hope, even.  It is in that place, where Oswald Chambers says that LIFE HAPPENS.

He wrote, “I, indeed was this and that; but He came, and a marvelous thing happened.  Get to the margin where He does everything.”

Father, You began this story this very morning.  Show me the way, day by day.  Show me how to live this life you called me to live and to live it FULLY. Break down the places in my heart that keep me from truly seeing, loving and knowing those You place in my path each day.  Thank You, Lord, for beginning this experiment.  May it be a year, where I find and know you better.  And may many, many come to know You, Jesus, because of it.  Amen.
