This day, walk in Whose you are. And because of WHOSE you are (you belong to Christ Jesus), walk in Who you really are with confidence.
I have a running conversation going in my head all the time (so do you). And because of that conversation, I have sometimes responded in action to something that never really happened. Are you tracking with me?
For instance, I could wonder why he or she acted (or didn’t act) or what he or she said (or didn’t say)…and I could make a decision in my inner dialogue. The decision could be as minor as something like he or she is avoiding me (and then I can even carry this one farther to not only are they avoiding me, but they have made a judgment on my character. And then I get mad for such a judgment (one that I don’t even know for certain that they have made, mind you)).
Do you see how destructive this can be?
Or I could determine that based on something they have said (or even written) that they are accusing me of neglect, when in reality they are not even thinking about me. Again, destructive.
The problem is this: as we come in contact with people, we will mis-read, mis-judge and completely misunderstand them. And they, us.
Here is where the problem begins.
For years, these situations have ruled over me–and gotten me in trouble more times than I can count. But then one day–about three years ago–I decided something. I decided to ACT and RESPOND out of what I did NOT see. Maybe I felt that they didn’t like me or wanted to treat me poorly, but I decided to ACT from a position of WHOSE I am, rather than what I perceived.
It is a game changer!
You better believe the enemy is still trying to whisper untruths into my ears about people, situations and circumstances. It is what He does!
But daily I have to make a decision to believe that God is working in me and through me in all situations. And truly? It doesn’t matter what judgments others have made about us! What matters is that we continue to operate from a place of LOVE and TRUTH towards them…heaping coals on their heads, maybe, or perhaps living as a fragrance of Christ that will impact them, even if they never change their behavior towards us.
Because of Jesus:
- We can walk in who we are.
- We can LOVE out loud.
- We can be confident that God will not let one good intent of His heart in and through us be LOST in the process.
For we count everything of ourselves as loss in the face of Christ Jesus. And we count everything of Christ in and through and upon us as GAIN.
With this position and perspective, we can truly be His hands and feet in this dark, dark world that would like for us to think it is all about us and live from the island of ME.
Whoa. The island of Me is a lonely and destructive place.
Let’s move along then, huh?
